Also great: Hold a burning cigarette close to the bite. (As close as you can stand it, but don't touch the skin!). The heat will dissolve the poison that makes you itch.

wow, never heard that one.

There are actually tools/instruments that work the same way. I thounk you can buy these in outdoor/hiking shops. They are battery driven and heat up a small metal plate that you press on the bite for a couple of seconds. But it's usually easier to find a smoker when you're not at home.
Be warned though; People tend to scream and proclaim you insane or a masochist when they see you do it. Takes a quick explanation that no - you're not planning to press out the cigarette on your skin. :-)

I think i'd fear holding a cigarette near my skin... but that's very interesting about the tools. thanks for the tip.

Ah, there you go: http://www.therapik.com/ that's one of the intruments I meant,

or something more safe, like getting the end of a battery wet and putting on the bite but I think that only works if venom is involved

or you could just put a metal spoon in hot water and put it directly on the bite. it works for me all the time.

aloe leaves and banana mush also doese the trick.(also helps with acne)

Would this work for ant bites?

I would think so, I don't think they are species-specific for remedying an itchy sensation on your skin. :)

Quick relief: Pinch or slap the itch until it hurts. The pain feels far more relieving than the itch XD

Informative article, precisely what I wanted.

Granted I look silly, but I made a paste out of salt and hot water. The salt helps dry the bite out.. It stings, but I can handle stinging over itching! (I worked an overnight security shift for our local county fair... and apparently I tasted yummy)

Good to know! Thanks for sharing.

use Basil leaves. instant relief and repels mosquitos

I was just messing around with a itchy bug bite and I put toothpaste on it and it went away I never knew it was a real life hack

Vapour rub to prevent bites and toothpaste on the bite after slapping it once or twice works for me.
