Nothing like catching a cold to completely ruin the holiday season. The next time you find yourself with a stuffy nose and the beginnings of a sore throat, breathe in warm air through your nose while holding a hair dryer blowing 18 inches away from your face. (Be sure the hair dryer is set to "warm" and not "hot").

Yes, really. As breathing in warm air helps kill rhinoviruses making their way through your nose, one study conducted in England showed that people who breathed in warm air through a hair dryer experienced less cold symptoms than those who did not.

If pointing a hair dryer at your face for 20 minutes does not appeal to you, many other simple and easy home remedies can help relieve your common cold symptoms. Garlic soup, anyone?
