Most people know that you can add vegetable peelings and egg shells to your compost heap, but did you know that you can also add nail clippings, human hair and pet hair?

In addition to organic matter that you or your animal friends naturally shed, you can also add latex balloons, your old cotton T-shirts (cut into strips), dryer lint, coffee grounds, wine corks, used toothpicks, shredded paper, and more.

For shredded paper, take extra caution to ensure that you are not adding any paper material that comes from magazines, glossy brochures, metallic wrapping paper, or other color-printed material that may contain toxic inks, which you definitely do not want to add to your garden.
