If you've had wooden furniture in your living space for a while, chances are that you've accumulated at least a couple of nicks and scratches on the surface. Before you spend money on a professional wood refinisher to restore the surface, try out some of the DIY techniques below using common household items to minimize the visibility of the scratch.
If you have a minor scratch on the finish but not the wood, you can try rubbing a solution of lemon juice and cooking oil over the scratch with a clean lint cloth. Rub firmly in the direction of the scratch until it disappears.
For deeper scratches that expose the wood, you can fill in the scratch using the meat of an almond or walnut, or color in the scratch using tea bags, coffee grounds, iodine, wax crayons, an eyebrow pencil, and more.
Worst comes to worst, you can always leave the scratch as is or cover with a nice DIY coaster or tablecloth.

Those are fantastic pieces of information. These are really very helpful tips and i'd be glad to try those. It's nice because some are organic stuffs that we can just see in our house, but can help us eliminate our problem with those scratches. Really very informative! Thanks for sharing this.

This really did work ! Thanks !!!! My brother has twins and they would play on my wooden table and left scratch marks on the surface .... It was so ugly...... Wish I would've taken pictures but seriously thanks a lot really helpful thread (;
I just used the Lemon Juice + Vegetable oil for a shallow scratch in my tables finish, works like a charm!

My grandson was playing with his trucks on my coffee table and ended up with some big scratchs. Its made from raw mango wood so I tried the walnuts. I rubbed them into the scratches and lo and behold they are barely visible. What a neat idea and so glad I found this tip. Thank you!
