Never buy pasta sauce from the supermarket again. Or salad dressing. Or pie crusts, chicken stock, hummus, bread crumbs and other common cooking staples that can be easily replicated within the comfort of your own kitchen.
Why? For the most part, making these food items at home is far less expensive than their pre-made counterparts. That, and once you taste just how much better these items taste when you take a little extra time to whip them up (or grow) at home, it's hard to go back to the bland, mass-produced supermarket flavor.
Many homemade variations of these cooking staples exist online. There is no single formula for creating these cooking staples, and that's the fun of it.
